RentScout is a web service that aggregates rental listings from public community groups and platforms, and presents them in a searchable feed. By using RentScout you agree to these terms.

What RentScout provides

We automatically index rental listings from public social media groups and community platforms to help you discover housing. The service covers a growing set of cities across multiple countries. Listings may not reflect current availability — always verify details directly with the landlord before making any commitment.

Your account

You may browse listings without an account. Creating a free account lets you see landlord contact details, save listings, and configure preferences — at no charge. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.

Payments

Optional paid plans — one-time passes and a lifetime founding membership — are listed with current prices on the Pricing page. One-time purchases do not auto-renew.

Payments are processed by Stripe.

Acceptable use

You may not scrape or systematically extract data from RentScout, use automated tools to access the service at scale, or attempt to circumvent access controls. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms.

Listing accuracy

Listings are sourced from third-party platforms. We do not verify their accuracy, availability, or the legitimacy of advertisers. RentScout is a discovery tool — conduct your own due diligence before any rental agreement.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.

We believe you should know exactly what data we collect and why. Here it is, plainly.

What we collect

• Account information. Your email address and name, provided when you sign in. This is stored and managed by Clerk, our authentication provider.
• Usage data. Pages you visit, features you use, and session duration — collected anonymously via Google Analytics (GA4). This data is aggregated and not linked to your identity.
• Saved listings and preferences. Rentals you bookmark and settings you configure are stored in your account so they persist across sessions.
• Payment data. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store them. We store only your subscription plan and its status.

How we use it

• To provide the service and keep your account working.
• To process subscription payments and manage access.
• To remember your saved listings and preferences.
• To understand how people use RentScout so we can improve it — for example, which filters are most used and which features add the most value.

Third-party services

• Clerk — authentication. Your login credentials are stored and managed by Clerk.
• Stripe — payment processing. Stripe stores your payment method; we do not.
• Google Analytics — anonymous usage analytics. Data is aggregated and used only to improve the product.

Data retention

We keep your account data as long as your account is active.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. Email us at rentscout@proton.me.

RentScout uses a small, purposeful set of cookies. Here is exactly what they are and why they exist.

Authentication cookies

Set by Clerk to keep you signed in. These are strictly necessary — the service cannot function without them when you are logged in. They expire when your session ends or after a reasonable inactivity period.

Analytics cookies

Set by Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymous, aggregated information about how visitors use RentScout — which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and which features are most used. This data is not linked to your identity and is used only to improve the product.

Preference cookies

Your theme choice (light or dark mode) is stored in your browser's local storage so it persists between visits. No server-side tracking is involved.

What we don't do

We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.

Managing cookies

You can disable analytics cookies using the Do Not Track setting in your browser, a browser extension, or by adjusting cookie preferences in browser settings. Disabling authentication cookies will prevent sign-in from working.
